It’s a pandemic – how do parents stay tapped into acting? (and actors generally)

I’ve been finding this lockdown is all sorts of crazy for acting parents. There’s a plethora of free content available, including casting director one-to-ones and free talks, and yet it’s nearly impossible to tap into any of them! Why? Because you have one or more squealing children in tow following your every move around your tiny flat. They’re hot on your tails discussing the ins and outs of lego, the latest film you’ve stuck them in front of, or complaining they’re very hungry (again).

And that’s why I decided it was time to take matters into my own hands. I love my kids as much as the next person, but I also want to feel like a fully fledged actor again, just once every few weeks. I want the feeling of being creative, like I’m ‘involved’ in the industry, like I’m getting my ‘fix’.

Here on Backstage I have written a piece just for parents wanting to do the same – How Parents Can Stay Tapped Into the Acting World During the Pandemic.

If you only do one of these a month, I swear it’ll make you feel like you’re doing something that’s for you. And that feels so good. As always, I love hearing from people about other things they’ve found have worked a treat or given them a chance to feel connected. If you have some of those, drop me a comment below and let me know your go-to things that don’t involve toddler food or homeschooling (ha!).
